VIENNA, AUSTRIA – uma, the innovation leader in semantic web technology, today announced that it has appointed Dietmar Seiler as vice president of interactive products and services. Seiler, a veteran executive and creative director in the Austrian digital arts world, will help increase uma’s profile with the global creative community, including digital agencies; film and television producers; new media producers; arts foundations; artists, and corporate art directors.

Seiler will be based at uma’s headquarters in Vienna, where he will help lead uma’s strategic directions in interactive design, including installations of uma’s recently-introduced SKIN™ product, the industry’s first semantic display product. uma SKIN integrates large-scale multitouch LCD displays with the uma semantic web content curation engine for information delivery. uma SKIN enables personalized content that tracks users with RFID and NFC technology and detects motion using 3D sensor cameras.

A native of Graz, Austria, Seiler most recently served as the artistic director of the regionale10 festival and managing director of regionale OrganisationsGmbH, both in Graz. Seiler, prior to this, served on the board of the renowned Neumarkt Theatre in Zurich, Switzerland, where he was responsible for the theatre’s programming and marketing.

Seiler was a member of the advisory board of the Graz 2003 Culture Capital of Europa project and has served as an artistic consultant on a range of visible European art projects, such as the Documenta11 and the Typosophes Sans Frontières.

Seiler has strong connections in the academic arts community, having managed the 4th Austrian international conference on contemporary history, in 1999. He has conceived various exhibits at the University of Graz, where he also served as a research fellow..

“As we have expanded the scope of business for our core semantic web software into large-scale display installations, uma needs a strong artistic director with solid ties to the global arts world, and Dietmar is an ideal presence for this role,” said Christian Doegl, founder and CEO of uma. “Dietmar is a proven visionary who can navigate the arts community and the corporate world with equal aplomb, without sacrificing creative integrity. He has worked on the leading edge of digital arts production, and will help further our in-roads into the creative industries.”
